Meet our new staff! Grassroots Fundraising Director Sherley Cordova

Newsletter

I’m a Salvadoreña from Los Angeles now living in Washington, DC. I first heard about CISPES as an undergraduate student at University of California-Santa Cruz. Though I was involved in organizing with the Salvadoran Student Union (USEU) at the time, I knew of the activities the CISPES-Santa Cruz chapter organized and developed lasting friendships with some of their members.

I have been politically active in issues surrounding El Salvador and Salvadorans since I was twelve years old, which is when I joined the FMLN Youth in Los Angeles. Both my experiences in FMLN and USEU consolidated my lifelong commitment to fighting for the liberation of El Salvador and our people.

I got my start in fundraising while I was getting my Master’s Degree at UT-Austin, and doing development work to support the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies (LLILAS) and Benson Library.

As CISPES’ new Grassroots Fundraising Director, I am excited to work with the fundraising team, to get to know our supporters, and to expand our network across the country. In a nutshell, I’m thrilled to join an organization with such a powerful trajectory and mission!
