Intern for grassroots education & social change! PDF Imprimir E-Mail
Tuesday, 21 de November de 2006
CISPES is a national solidarity organization that, since 1980, has led grassroots organizing efforts against U.S. economic and military intervention in El Salvador. We work within the transnational progressive movement to build alternative social models that promote participatory democracy, respect for human and labor rights, and economic justice.

Throughout our history, we have worked in solidarity with the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN) and the broader Salvadoran social justice movement to counter oppressive, US-backed policies of the Salvadoran right.  Today, the struggles in El Salvador face increasing repression in the lead-up to the 2009 Salvadoran presidential elections.

As a national organization, we have eight chapters around the country, all of which host interns.  You are also welcome to apply to work in our national office in Washington, DC.  For those who have more experience with Central America solidarity work, we also offer a position in our office in San Salvador.  Please check out the three different position descriptions posted below for specific information about each opportunity.

The actual work that interns do depends on where they are located, as well as their developmental goals. There are many possibilities: written translation, solidarity projects, fundraising, writing or layout for our quarterly newsletter for example. In every office, interns gain practical organizing skills, a solid understanding of socio-economic and political issues in El Salvador, both current and an historical understanding of global economic trends, as well as strategies to change the political/economic situation here in the US, a connection to the Latin American solidarity movement within the US, work experience and college credits!

HOW DO YOU APPLY?
First, spend some time perusing our website to understand more about what we do. Then pick the option below that seems most appropriate for you.

Qualifications for each position depend on the specific office where you would like to work.  Check out the position descriptions below for more information.
