El Salvador’s Ministry of Education is well on its way to eradicating illiteracy in the country. Inspired by the Cuban model, the first FMLN government launched its own National Literacy Program in 2009. Since then, tens of thousands of young people have volunteered to lead literacy circles in their communities and over 200,000 people, mostly older adults and women, have learned to read and write!

The Ministry of Education has called for international support for this program – can you help us promote this revolutionary program? CISPES is mobilizing people in the US to join our 3rd Literacy Brigade to El Salvador to learn from the country’s inspiring process of people-centered transformation and what we can do to help defend it. If you want to make a concrete contribution to the people’s liberation through education, please join us this summer!
