CISPES Commemoration of Ramiro and Dora Alicia

The Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador(CISPES) commemorates the life of Ramiro Rivera Gómez, assassinated one yearago on December 20th, 2009 and the lives of Dora Alicia Recinos Sorto and her soon-to-be born child,assassinated on December 26th, 2009 in Trinidad, Cabañas. 

We wish to express our sympathy and our solidarity with theirfamilies, and with all of the compañerosand compañerasof the Environmental Committee of Cabañas and the anti-mining struggle,with whom Ramiro and Dora Alicia victoriously struggled over the last severalyears to defend their community against the threat of metallic mining. Thanksto their efforts, there is no mining today in El Salvador.

We honor the memory of compañeroRamiro and compañera Dora Alicia andher child, reaffirming our commitment to accompany the Salvadoran people andthe communities of Cabañas in defending their land, water, culture, and lifeitself.
