March for Justice and Immigrant Rights on May 1!

News

May 1 is International Workers Day and this year a very special celebration will take place in El Salvador as popular organizations take to the streets to celebrate both worker power AND the recent victory of the FMLN party.

Meanwhile, here in the United States, CISPES is supporting rallies and mobilizations throughout the country to demand rights for immigrants and a just economy for all!

Pleasejoin us in taking to the streets in support of immigrant rights thisFriday, May 1.  If youre in a city with a CISPES chapter you can findout more information about local Mayday rallies and marches:

As CISPES continues to work in support of workers, campesinos, students, women's groups, the FMLN party and all those in El Salvador fighting for social justice and equality, we also recognize that the worsening economic situation in El Salvador exacerbated by US imposed free-trade policies like CAFTA has forced many Salvadorans to migrate to the United States.  Meanwhile, border repression, raids and deportations have also contributed to the worsening economic situation, creating a viscous cycle.  Until there is a change to the economic policies being promoted by the US governments, people in Latin America will continue to be forced to leave their countries and families.

CISPES joins the immigrants and pro-immigrant activists taking to the streets in defense of human rights and in favor of a just immigration reform that provides a clear path towards citizenship and full rights for the millions of undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. CISPES will continue to connect such struggles to our ongoing work in support of the FMLN and the Salvadoran social movement and against "free" trade agreements, privatization, and militarization in Central America.

Therefore, CISPES supports the following demands:

·  Stop the Raids and Deportations

·  Just and Humane Immigration Reform

·  End the 287(g) Agreements (No Local Enforcement of Unjust Immigration Law)
