Democracy NOW! Covers Romney and Salvadoran Death Squad Link

News

More coverage on the partnership between Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and wealthy Salvadoran families who funded the death squads and their political vehicle, the hard-right Nationalist Republican Alliance, ARENA, during El Salvador's Civil War from 1980-1992. The ARENA party held the Salvadoran presidency from 1989-2009, until the leftist Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) slate won the presidency in 2009 despite massive electoral fraud and US intervention in support of ARENA. Romney as US president, would be one of the best allies that the Salvadoran right could hope for to support ARENA's presidential bid in the 2014 elections.

In this video segment, Amy Goodman interviews Ryan Grim, who co-wrote a comprehensive piece exposing Romney's ties to the Salvadoran families in the Huffington Post.
