PROTEST – MILWAUKEE CORPORATION SUING IMPOVERISHED EL SALVADOR FOR $100 MILLION
Protest & press conference – Noon, July 9,
CGC Headquarters, 6001 N. 91st St. (91st & Fond Du Lac)
CommerceGroup Corp. (CGC), based here in Milwaukee, makes its profits from goldand silver mining in El Salvador. Communities across El Salvador areprotesting metallic mining because of the environmental degradation andeconomic injustice caused by transnational mining companies like CGC.In 2006 and in 2008, the mining permits for CGC were revoked by ElSalvador’s Minister of the Environment. In March 2009, they announcedtheir intent to sue the government of El Salvador for $100 million in“lost profits” under the notorious Central American Free TradeAgreement.
If you think El Salvador has the right to determineits own economic and environmental policy, join us for a pressconference and demonstration at noon on July 9th, 2009, at CGCHeadquarters, 6001 N. 91st St. (91st & Fond Du Lac). Demand thatCommerce Group drop the lawsuit against El Salvador!
