Give the Gift of Solidarity

News

We hope this finds you in the spirit of struggle and resistance! At this time of year, wouldnt it be great to give a gift that helps to build a just economic alternative from the ground up?

This holiday season, we invite you to give the gift of solidarity!  Give to CISPES in honor of someone in your life would be inspired by our grassroots organizing to stop U.S.-backed repression and to stand up for sovereignty in Latin America.

If you make a donation of $40 or more to CISPES before January 1, we will send you (or as a gift to someone you choose) a collection of the news from the Salvadoran social movement (you wont find that in the newspapers!), an 8.5 x 11 print of our solidarity mural, and a CD of revolutionary music from El Salvador to inspire you to keep on fighting for justice.

We in CISPES are inspired by the strength of the social movement organizing against corporate privatization strength of the social movement organizing against corporate privatization and by the tremendous popular support for the leftist party in the upcoming elections (The FMLN is up 13% in the polls!). This victory from below will represent the constant struggle for social and economic justice by generations of Salvadorans.

But the right-wing is desperately lashing out in a dangerous last bid for power. Our solidarity from the U.S. is urgently needed in the months!

You may not have seen this ad, but Salvadorans are being barraged by the right-wing ARENA partys dirty campaign every day. These ads charge that the US will restrict the money that Salvadorans in the US send home if the FMLNs candidate Mauricio Funes triumphs next March. These same bogus threats scared many out of voting for the left in 2004, as over half of Salvadoran families depend on this income.

Make no mistake about itARENA is depending on the complicity of the US government to make those scare tactics work again!

Thats where CISPES comes in! Were firing back with a video of our own -- Unidos por El Cambio! Watch it here to see international solidarity in action.

Our Campaign to Defend Free and Fair Elections in El Salvador is well underway to insure that US intervention doesnt thwart the will of the Salvadoran people.

Join us in taking action before March 2009:

« Pressure Congress to take a stand of non-intervention and declare their neutrality in E l Salvador s elections

« Flood E l Salvador with statements of support for fair elections (If your organization will sign on, please contact [email protected]

« Hit the streets with our grassroots Peoples Pledge to recruit new activists who will protest with us against US intervention or fraud and violence by AR E NA. Join the mobilization and take the Pledge today!

« Monitor both the January and March elections to expose fraud and irregularities. To apply for the March delegation (our biggest in years!), send an email to [email protected]

Our allies in the social movement tell us that the prospects for change in El Salvador are better now than they have been at any time since the signing of the Peace Accords.

But we in CISPES know that now is not the time to be complacent. Now is the time to give it everything we have!

The elections are only three months away--please give the gift of solidarity today! Join our compañeros and compañeros who have been fighting for this victory for over thirty years in declaring ¡Sí se puede!

In solidarity,

Burke Stansbury, CISPES Executive Director

P.S. Help us insure that in March 2009 Salvadorans will also be celebrating a regime changea change we all can believe in! Please give as generously as you can today. Be sure to include the name and address of your Gift of Solidarity

recipient in the comments line!
